ABOUT ME
Monisha Kapila, Founder and Principal
I'm an executive coach and leadership consultant with 20+ years of experience guiding leaders and organizations through complex change. Rooted in the principle of "leadership by purpose," I believe transformative change happens when individuals and organizations align around a shared vision and have a clear, strategic pathway to achieve it. Clients describe my approach as holistic, strategic, and transformative.
I founded and led ProInspire, a nonprofit that activates leaders at all levels to accelerate racial equity, where I served as CEO and co-CEO for 15 years. Under my leadership, ProInspire grew from working with 5 organizations in 2009 to reaching more than 8,000 leaders and 500 social impact organizations by 2023. I personally designed and facilitated more than 100 leadership trainings and retreats for foundations, nonprofits, government agencies, and corporations.
Before ProInspire, I spent a decade working across the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, including roles at Andersen, CARE, Accion, and Capital One — experience that shapes how I coach leaders across industries, from nonprofit and philanthropic organizations to technology, banking, and industrials.
As a coach and consultant, I help leaders build clarity, confidence, and the ability to trust their own instincts. I support CEOs, boards, and executive teams in developing strategies and cultures aligned to their mission and values, blending strategic insight with a human-centered approach.
I focus on helping:
Leaders navigate complex transitions, including executive succession, organizational restructuring, and strategic pivots
Executive teams become stronger and more effective
C-suite leaders and boards increase alignment and effectiveness
Organizations design values-aligned approaches to talent and culture
I'm a thought leader on purpose-driven leadership, writing extensively and hosting a podcast exploring how leaders build clarity and lead through change. I also serve as Adjunct Faculty at Georgetown University's Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership, teaching about talent management and diversity, equity, and inclusion. My contributions to the field have been recognized through accolades including the Chronicle of Philanthropy's 40 Under 40, Harvard Business School Leadership Fellow, and American Express NGen Fellow.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two children, and Havanese dog in Northern Virginia.
